Puppets Alive!

Last week we had a travelling puppet show come to our school to teach us about the different puppets that are made. We got to interact and play with many types of puppets from string puppets to puppets that need two people to make it move!

Old and New at Motat

Last Friday we went on a trip to Motat to learn about "old and new" things. Our educator, Abby, took us to a room for us to explore lots of different items that were from the olden days. We dressed up in old clothing, we practiced writing with a quill, we played with old toys and different household items from the olden days. After exploring Motat we got to go on the tram, what a fun day we had.

Marble Park and Playground

Two weeks ago we went with Room 2 to the Marble Park as part of our topic, "Old and New".
We enjoyed putting marbles down the track and trying to find which direction it had gone. Thanks for a lovely outing Room 2!

Building a Sky Tower


We have been learning about important places in Auckland. After our trip to Auckland City last Wednesday we used different boxes and containers to build a tall tower. We enjoyed knocking it down too. Look at the tall buildings we made.

Trip to the Sky Tower

We are learning about important places in Auckland. We went for a trip to the Sky Tower and then drove through the Domain on the way home. The Sky Tower was so tall! We walked over the glass which was very scary and saw someone doing the a Bungy Jump and the Sky Walk.
What a fabulous trip!

Out and about at Fruit World

This term we have been learning about healthy food. We can classify food into different food groups and we also learned the names of many different foods. We went for a visit to the fruit shop. We got to pick a piece of fruit to eat for morning tea. We loved looking at all the different fruit and vegetables that they sell.

Te Oro Art Festival

This term we have been learning about keeping our water clean. Ricky went to Te Oro today to represent Sommerville school and talk about our classroom and what we have learn this term. Well done Ricky for sharing our learning.

Cleaning up our enviornment

This term we have been learning about cleaning up our environment. We have been picking up rubbish from around our school and learning about sorting the rubbish into paper, plastic, food scraps and aluminium. Last week we went to visit Point England Reserve which is our local beach. We found lots of rubbish at the beach and put it in our buckets. We found lots of different items like socks, goggles, glass, bottles and plastic. We all know how to find items at the beach that do NOT belong. Well done boys!

T R I C K OR T R E A T ? ?

BOO! Tamaki Primary went to Sommerville School today for Halloween celebrations. We had face painting, art activities, pin the face on the jack o lantern, spooky sensory play, the haunted sensory room and trick or treating around the base classes. We had so much fun. Look at our scary costumes!

Rangoli Designs for Diwali

This term is all about celebrations! We are celebrating the Diwali festival - the festival of lights. We made Rangoli designs using crayon and dye.
This year we have all also been working on our keyboard skills.We typed up a sentence about our Rangoli deisgns on the computer.  We can now make spaces in between our words and we all use a full stop at the end of our sentence.

OLYMPICS DAY

Tamaki Primary took part in Sommerville School's Olympic Ceremony. We dressed up in Jamaica's flag colours and marched through the atrium where we sang the national anthem, passed the torch and opened the games. We played heaps of fun games like javelin, discus, soccer, shot put and Hockey.

Cook Island Language Week

Last week was Cook Island Language Week which Tamaki Primary celebrated by making costumes at Te Oro. The helpers at Te Oro showed us how to make head pieces using feathers and plastic flowers. We really liked the live music that was playing too. Dont we look good in our special hats we made?

Shadow Art

This term we have been learning about shadows and how they are made. We made shadow art by cutting out a photo in black paper as our shadow. We decorated our picture with collage coloured paper. Our shadows can do funny things!
